The American Civil War started on April 12th, 1861. It was by far the bloodiest war ever fought on American land. The war left a mark on America with 620,000 people killed and millions of casualties. It was between the northern states called the Union, and the Southern states called the Confederacy. They were angry at each other, mainly because of three reasons: slavery, Compromise of 1850 and secession. All three of these factors led to the inevitability of the Civil War. Slavery, some historians argue, was the main cause for the Civil War. It was one of the biggest issues in the 1800 s. Slavery generated conflict between the Southern and Northern states. The South was heavily reliant on slavery.
